A Cornerstone of Sustainable and Equitable Development
Do you feel we cannot solve Tagar#climatechange, Tagar#energytransition, and other contemporary challenges without improving the way we manage social risks and impacts? Do you feel vulnerable people can be left behind if their own welfare and livelihoods are not part of the solution? If so, join us at the international conference on Social Impact Assessment (Tagar#SIA): A Cornerstone of Sustainable and Equitable Development. The conference will be held on Sept 17 in Jakarta, Indonesia, with online access through Zoom and livestreaming, by the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) in partnership with the World Bank, KfW, and the European Union (EU). It aims to share relevant experiences among stakeholders, including government officials, development partners, and social experts, and discuss how to balance speed in infrastructure development (and impact assessment) and fairness to affected people, including vulnerable groups. The morning session will focus on land acquisition and resettlement and discuss how a comprehensive but structured SIA can help prevent significant livelihood loss and long-term impoverishment cost-effectively, while the afternoon session will present international experiences in SIA systems and discuss the “future of SIA” – how best to minimize impoverishment risks while expediting infrastructure development.
A detailed agenda will be shared when finalized. Look forward to meeting you in person or online!
