Nusantara, Indonesia New Capital As Net Zero City In 2024 Indonesia will establish the new city of Nusantara as its national capital. With ambitious goals to become a clean, climate-resilient, sustainable and livable city, Nusantara will be aligned with supporting Indonesia’s efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change as set forth in its Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution. Nusantara embodies a vision of a modern and sustainable Indonesia. Indonesia aspires to be a high-income country that sits among the seven largest economies in the world by its centenary anniversary in 2045. The new capital symbolizes and facilitates this aspiration. It is envisaged to be a smart and sustainable city. It will be a “city in the forest with forest in the city,” with a target to achieve a resilient, net zero city by 2045.
