Smart City Master Plan

Mississauga’s Smart City initiatives are focused on transformational city building, aiming to create vibrant, inclusive communities with a high quality of life. The city aspires to be a model of government-led smart city urban development, emphasizing people-centered, neighborhood-focused, and forward-ready approaches. The goal is to use technology to address urban opportunities and challenges, fostering a city where people choose to live, work, and play.

Key digital initiatives under Mississauga’s Smart City program include Wireless Mississauga (providing free public Wi-Fi), digital services through the city’s website, apps, and other platforms, computer access, and Maker Spaces at libraries, along with various other tools and services. As a relatively young city, Mississauga has had the advantage of integrating technology into its infrastructure, systems, and processes alongside the rise of digital technology in society. The city also recognizes the social, cultural, and economic impacts of digital technologies and how they shape communities.

The Smart City Master Plan serves as a framework for Mississauga’s approach to digital projects, public engagement, and digital transformation. It also initiates the Smart City program, which will support ongoing initiatives, public engagement, and thought leadership around digital modernization and smart city technologies.

The desired outcomes of these initiatives are ambitious. Mississauga aims to create a sustainable and desirable city where residents feel empowered, safe, healthy, and happy. Fundamentally, Mississauga’s Smart City initiatives strive to create “A Smart City for Everybody,” operating on the belief that collective success benefits everyone.
